got to make a website ...

I must make a website for my wife business.
    Very, very, very simple.
Only advertising her business and put contact details, maybe a contact form.
No payment or shopping or anything.
We can't afford to pay a professional.

    Site not registered (yet).

    Any advice?
    Thanks,

Hi I don't know what you already know, but for a website you need three things
    1 - a domain name
2 - somewhere to host your site
    3 - content

Many companies will do a deal and you can usually get 1 and 2 together fairly cheaply.

3 is the tricky part. As a non-artistic techie I have had to do some fancy html reports at work. Thankfully my boss is an ex graphic designer and I have learned a couple of important things about making things look presentable.

    - get a colour scheme and a theme for your page.
    - don't overdo the graphics and fonts
    - clarity is key
    - keep it consistent
    - mercilessly steal other people's work from other websites.

Apparently all professionals do this last one so you'd be in good company.

You need something to build and edit your page. You can buy expensive software called dreamweaver, Microsoft Word will edit web pages, or you can edit the code in a text editor which is surprisingly easy.

There are thousands of tutorials teaching you how to write html. This is shockingly easy when you know how.

You can view the code from other websites by (from memory) going to the edit menu and clicking "view code" you can make any changes and save this file to your computer.

I don't have any experience of making my own site so there are probably people more experienced than me here, but feel free to contact me if you want help.

    Good luck!

Wife business? Do you buy them or sell them?
Tao begets one. One begets two. Two begets all things.
