Just a bit of advance notice for this. Long Eaton RC are planning an event to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
It'll be on 11th June 2011 and circumnavigates Derby, mainly off-road (but, to be clear, there's no proper fell terrain).
It includes a 50 mile ultra for solos and a six-leg relay (as in six stages, not for people with 30 toes).
£15/£17 (unattached) or £42 for a team in the relay.

I did a circuit of Derby recently in an LDWA event - the Wilmot Wander. Very nice. Only 32 miles but may go to some of the same places. Although that was on tracks, some muddy so maybe not... Lovely area
We go quite a bit more rural than the WW, but you're right - some reet good countryside.
