How tough is this event, relative to something like the LAMM, Saunders, OMM etc? I fancy giving it a go, but the winning times look relatively slow, and I've got visions of crawling back in several hours after everyone else...

I've entered. Great that it's on a Sunday, means I can play football saturday then race Sunday. Don't know the lakes much at all so it will be great to test my nav work and get to know the area. Sounds a great race.

It's something like a LAMM or OMM day 1 A class (but on your own), or a Saunders day 1 Klets, but the controls tend to be on large features and if you can navigate to the circle you will find the control.

The thing is with the Mountain Trial you aren't carrying a tent etc on your back so you feel obliged to run. This can have dire effects, usually about 3/4 the way round when all this running has had a numbing effect on your brain and you decide to take the up/down route choice rather than the round the side route - hence crawling back in several hours are everybody else. Sure, you might be able to follow people, but guaranteed the time you are getting uncertain of your position is the time you will lose sight of all other competitors...

    Re: Lake District Mountain Tri

Entered last night online (ooh er missus).

I have very little experience of fell races the only other one i've done is the welsh 1000m summits race in 2005 and this year.

Is there anyone who has done both who is able to comment on how they compare?

Winning times seems similar in both events but that could be down to the quality of the competitors rather than the event. I'm guessing that the LDMT is more popular than the welsh 1000m so gets more fast b*ggers but also more 'have a go' ers, like me.

    Any comments welcome!

I know what you mean - I'm getting all excited now!

No info. through the post, yet, though.
