Talked to one of my clubmates about this race last night. Apparently route choice is really important and you can loose loads of time by the wrong decisions, particularly on one of the last descents. So follow someone who has done it before or have a recce beforehand.

I panicked about route finding the first time that I did this - but shouldn't have worried.

There's a large entry and most people follow the same route. I'm sure that there are some small advantages to be gained and one place where a few people go a radically different route. Just don't start off to the right, away from the main path - didn't work for me!

Had a recce on Sunday with some depressingly fast clubmates. Generally dry and in places it was like running on a nice soft mattress. Boggy in all the usual spots like Whetstone Gate and 'the river of grass' descent from the trig point but no real problems. I did lose a shoe at one point, but that was because I hadn't tied my laces tightly (still trying to protect my 3 peaks-blackened toenails).
Should be a fun race tomorrow.

Great race this. Really enjoyed it again. The distance quoted seems to be just the joined up checkpoints ie crow flies distance. Did anyone garmin it? Out of interest.

I really enjoyed it. Only fell over once and landed in a nice soft bilberry bush. Just managed to beat the first lady home but that was mainly because she took longer routes. Total of 10 juniors turned out for Otley in our first race with a junior section, which was nice to see. I don't think they expected q uite as much uphill though!

Re: jack bloor fell race 12/5

This year's race is next Tuesday (12th) so don't be confused by the thread title and turn up a day late.

I'm off recceing it tomorrow with club-mates. anyone else planning on doing the race?

Hopin' to be there and perhaps dip under the hour. Last year I missed the last control and went back up from the finish to find it. Eerily the bloke holding the bucket was the same as at all the other checkpoints. How...?

Are there any kit carrying requirements for this race?
