    Wasdale

Can't believe it's nearly that time of year again...

Just had a look at the CFRA website, and it looks like we should be getting our Jos Naylor signed certificates from last year - one of my reasons for entering in the first place.

Who's up for a bit more pain this year?

Hoping to make my Wasdale debut this year. Just trying to psyche myself to fill in the entry form (deep breath now....).

    Is that a "race entry"
    form or

"how can we contact your next of kin if you disappear and never make it back"
    form?

Just trying to help with the confidence......!

If anyone's tentative about doing it then just go for it. I did it last year as my first ever lakeland race and ran it at a reasonable tempo, although not pushing too hard. This worked out well for me as I got to admire the views although I was still ticking along nicely. It's fantastic - for the uninitiated, running up Great Gable looks and feels like a "proper" mountain, and the run down from Scafell must be one of the best descents in any fell races. I stayed at the national trust campsite which is a great place to be. It's the best feeling, on the Saturday night, just to recline in your camping chair with a few slices of bacon sizzling away on your stove, a beer in your hand, to look around the cloud covered tops and think "I ran round those fellas today"... .

Right, sent my form off today. Drove down Wasdale last week with the family and looked at some of the stuff I'll have to get round. Very interesting.

A bit 'off-thread' but seeing as I started the thread...

My foot injury will prevent me from racing at Wasdale but I still intend being there to do some walking (running if poss.) around the area on the Saturday and Sunday.

The route I am planning for Saturday goes something like - Brackenclose, Yewbarrow, Red Pike, Steeple, Pillar, Kirkfell, Gt. Gable, Esk Pike, Ill Crag, Broad Crag, Scafell Pike, Scafell, Brackenclose - don't think I've missed any!

If anyone with some of that fancy mapping software would like to measure the route and give me the ascent/descent I would be more than grateful

Of course, if anyone fancies joining me, the more the merrier!

Might have to be an early start though
