    Litter!!

Drove home from the Lakes yesterday - stopped at Knutsford services for a coffee. Woman in the car next to us smoked 2 cigarettes whilst we were there - just threw them away when she had finished them - did not even bother to put them out. There was a clearly visible bin about 20 yards away. Later, stop-start traffic where the M6 joins the A14/M1 - area of grass on the right covered in litter - people clearly took the "opportunity" of moving slowly to empty the car of rubbish. What do we do?

I try to come home with a bit of litter that wasn't originally mine. Usually small stuff that'll fit in my bumbag, but it's a start. Ended up with an empty red bull bottle today, and a crisp packet! It has to be said though, I left a few bits behind, where some other lazy buggers had dropped them.

That's brilliant and just about the most positive thing you can do about the situation. Good on you.

Since they don't care and never will and we do and always will. The only answer is to pick it up for them!.

The answer, like that to many of society's (relatively minor) issues, lies in education. Educating young people to respect the environment in which they live

this is one of my pet hates. I frequently pick up litter if I have space to carry it.
years ago I saw a guy throw a drinks carton out of his car onto the pavement...his window was still rolled down so I picked it up and threw it back at him into his car. he was dumb-struck and I felt very smug. he didn't throw it back out though after I gave him directions to the nearest bin....all of 8ft away.

I have certain zones and paths I have adopted - I pass through most days and clear bags full over the year- turns a run into a good deed.

I disagree with that DT, I actually find that young people are suprisingly respectful in the countryside but for the small minority of chavs who at the sign of any hit weather head for reservoirs etc.
Young people get a hard time and I think it is unwarranted
Trying to plod up hills every day slightly faster than the day before
