If Tidal Power was the way forward, efficient, viable.... the private sector would be queuing up to crack on.

Interest rates are diddly squat, so if you can put investment in to something that might yield a decent return on investment why not?

We will all need electricity and demand will almost certainly grow, carb0on based generation in the West will become more difficult.

Judging from some of the EMEC companies around the Pentland Firth, there's lots of seed money available, but they are waiting as they want some Govt subsidy as we've seen with on and offshore wind over the years and SOLAR.

Scrap all subsidy, offer investment incentives instead, see what the market leads to. It could be tidal.

That's certainly the thinking of an increasing group of people such as Jem Blundell at the University of Cumbria. https://jembendell.com/

They're encouraging people to stop this massive sense of denial and face up to the fact we're stuffed and then start planning things that we positively can do. These include planning to safely sort out (?) the nuclear power stations, after we have lost the current supporting infrastructure and skills, and also seeing what other infrastructures/systems of survival we can maintain or put into place for those who have managed to weather what's coming. It's all a bit 'the end is nigh-ish' but maybe this time the woe betiders have a point.

To be honest i was thinking along the lines that tidal power would be a good (and seemingly limitless) alternative to fossil fuels... rather than a full-scale solution to global warming.

Totally agree that the world is hugely over-populated.
