I considered walking to Majorca but my sandals were worn down.

So your return flight produced as much CO2 as 200,000 carrier bags (more if you flew further than London)

Shall we ban the bags or ban the flights...

For me the main issue with plastic bags is litter and the subsequent harm to wildlife, particularly sea creatures which also suffer from other types of plastic pollution, the micro- particles in body scrubs being specific example.

Well said. It's something everyone can contribute to quite easily.

I'm no expert on plastic bags but logic dictates that a bin liner, for 1 or few uses, is going to be thinner than a carrier bag. As already mentioned, this is about making a simple adjustment to the way you shop and saving a huge amount of produced, and soon after to be waste plastic. It's not a drama just logical. Also air miles have absolutely nothing to do with it. To suggest you can avoid going on a flight and "fill your boots" with plastic bags is a bit nuts. However IMO laziness does have a lot to do with any argument against it.
