For the Holmfirth-based runner the Dovestones Resevoir area is the hard to beat for some proper hills. It is also easy to devise routes which take in a series of different hills. A personal favourite is up the Ashway Stone climb (mentioned earlier), around the edge to the Fox Stone, all the way down to the corner of the resevoir (good little path), straight back up to hit the old stone wall (another good little path). Then south along the edge to meet the old tramway, down this, up the vague clough opposite (feint path) over to Wimberry and back down.
First 2 climbs runnable, 3rd partially runnable. In all about 7 miles, 2900 feet of ascent. Sets you up well for Lakes races.
