are we now seeing Dick Dastardly tactics applied to fell races, diverting the competition over lethal drops? ;-)

Sorry, didn't mean to scare anyone.

I just didn't want anyone who had never done the race to follow Ady's map too literally coz they would end up in trouble.

The way off St Sundays is easy to find, just follow the path till you get to the end of the cliffs and then drop down the one of the gullies I suggested earlier. Anythinng that looks like a cliff probably is a cliff so avoid. The good routes down look like they go right from the top, so there is no problem recognising them.

Enjoy and don't look at the profile Ady posted, that really is scary!

I used it in last years race, but that was all a blur. Is it a long scree run or pretty short lived. I dont seem to remember being delivered safely to the valley floor by it.
Jamie, just stick to me again, can't miss it.

Will be doing a reccie of this next week if anyones about...

Was a rough guide to give an idea of the race route, not a GR accurate course map. I have never had a good line off St Sunday (although never dropped off any cliffs!). There are no markers so you can pick your own way off, whichever way you choose it will hurt your quads like hell. Sorry if it has caused any concerns. Unfortunately I cannot attend this year due to work stuff which is a bugger as I was looking forward to it - would have a liked to have challenged the 2 hour mark, best is 12 mins over this. Hope you all enjoy it and the weather is kind enough to allow the fantastic views.

That is great running Ady, I've done this twice. First time I did it I was 3rd from last.

Last year I managed 2hrs48mins so Im hoping to beat that this year.

Yeah, I realise that, but I thought it was better to make it clear.

A mate of mine took a line something similar to the one on your map last year and had no end of fun getting down.

    Re: grisedale horseshoe

I'm up for this race this year. The Ben next year.

It's a pity it clashes with the Ben as both events are good for different reasons. The Ben is a better weekend but I think Grisedale is a tougher and more interesting race.

If visibility is poor make sure you keep running South all the way from Helvellyn to Grisedale Tarn ~ it's easy to follow the South West track leading down to Wythburn if you're not concentrating.

Yes, your legs will hurt before you reach the valley bottom coming off SS Crag, and yes your legs will hurt all the way to the top of the next climb.

It's all worth it though for the excellent tea and cakes in the village hall afterwards.

    Enjoy!
