    Re: grisedale horseshoe

The year I was 3rd from last was such a wake up call for me,

I had hardly visited the lakes when I ran that never mind ran or walked there. I tagged (pardon the pun) onto a woman who was just as knackered as me (one of moo's friends I later found out). Luckily between us we figured out the route. It was a foggy day and I would not have had a clue otherwise.

I then started to do some long runs and got used to map reading and got to the lakes more.

To be honest it was quite frightening especially when tired.

    CP at rivercrossing (Grisedale Beck):
NY36965 15070 (you can see crossing point as you descend)

Think this was the last one although it could have just been marshals at the river crossing. Previous was top of St Sunday Crag. More feedback should confirm.

I think the last checkpoint is the hole in the wall after climbing back up the valley but don't quote me on that

I remember someone stood up there but thought it was just someone shouting encouraging words - don't recall any number taking down or anything........Grisedale Beck or hole in the wall, any advances?

I would think there would be a checkpoint at Hole in the wall or you wouldnt have to do the nasty climb up there!

My lakes running experience is very limited, it's very difficult for me to juggle family commitments with driving out there. Nearly all of my racing so far this year has been on the North York Moors.

I know I'm going to struggle with this race, but I've really got to do it (and more) if I ever want to improve and be good enough to complete next years 3 Peaks race, which is my goal.

I'm going to the FRA Nav course next month to get some practical knowledge of map reading. Just have to use my wits in the meantime. Oh dear...
