    Car Parking, Grizedale Forest.

Now then, anybody know of any official car parks or lay-bys where I can leave my car overnight, as I have a trog around Grizedale Forest? I'll probably be doing as much walking as jogging, but I like to get out overnight once in a while. I just fancy a bit of exploring around there, bivvying overnight, and then trying to find my way back to the car late the next morning.
With a bit of luck, I might even see some red deer!

There is a car park at Hawkshead Moor - on the right as you head south, OS GR about 343965. I have used this during the day only. Very easy to get lost in the forest, so make sure you have map/compass +/- GPS.

car park has barriers on it but you can park on the road which leads upto this car park Note This a pay and display car park !

I can distinctly remember not having to pay - we had no change which is why we did not park in the main car park further south.

    Re: Car Parking, Grizedale For

Cheers folks. My (rough) plan is to park up somewhere convenient, perhaps get a grid ref on my gps just in case I can't find it again on my own, and then just wander about pretty aimlessly for a few hours, going where my nose leads. As darkness approaches, it'll be out with the tarp and bivi, hopefully somewhere with a nice view, and get my head down. Next morning, a slow amble back to the car. If I'm having trouble finding it, I'll find out where it is via gps. Obviously I'll have a map and compass, if only to find out where I am if I want to make a note of it!
