    Re: Head torch recommendations

I've been very happy with a Fenix HP10 (£50) over the last couple of winters. Used at least a couple of times a week for up to about 3 - 4 hours at a time with no issues, the Fenix lights are well put together. Run with others who use some of the big Silva orienteering lamps and I'd say the Fenix light output comparable.

A fiver more would get you the new Fenix HP11:

The Fenix HP11 looks good. 277 Lumens is more than adequate for most purposes (I can vouch for the fact that the 191 Lumen Nightsearcher is pretty good, even for Bedlamites...!)

One drawback I've noticed with the Hope lamps (apart from the Vision 4, which is a mad price...) is their beam pattern, which is far too narrow for my liking. You don't want a pencil beam for running; a nice broad flood is much better.

I have a Silva 480 (20w halogen) lamp which gives a fantastic flood (if a bit yellow compared to LED lights) but it's really old technology now and absolutely kills the battery in less than 2 hours.

    Hi,

Try one of these I used one last Winter, found to be quite adequate, would do for a backup at the very least.

Get yourself an Alpkit headtorch. Great bit of kit with lots of features that work. Available on their website for £12.50.

Amen brother! My neighbour a MTB rider has an ayup, it cost him 20 times more. He can light up trees a hundred feet away. Meanwhile the Alpkit lights up all I need and a little bit more. Tackle tarts!

I've got an Alpkit headtorch, okay for camping and bothying but it's not that reliable in the cold and wet.

It certainly wouldn't give me enough light for a reasonable length run up in the hills, I do tend to carry it on big days as an emergency light.

Looks OK for 12.50 though! I might get one of those for me bike helmet, have to say that the battery case doesn't look that waterproof .....

    ooh...blinkin' hell lots of recommendations.

Think I might be more confused. MYO seems popular though not liking those reliability issues. Yes they may replace quick enough but what if i'm out running at the time!!

hmmmmmmm.....what to do what to do........
