    Silva Alpha Headlamp

Anyone got one of these or tried one? Are they any good? They sound like they should be, even if a tad pricey. I ran with a Myo RXP last Winter and it was lacking somewhat.
It's only training if it's raining. It's no fun in the sun.

Seriously, I think they are too expensive for the claimed performance when compared to something like the Fenix HP11 which can be had for £40 from some sources...

I personally love mine using it for mtb'ing and running. I think too many people get obsessed about lumens and forget about the practical aspects of the beam. The Alpha-6 has a really good wide flood combined with a far reaching spot... you can get a lot cheaper that are supposedly as powerful but if all that light is in one comparatively small focussed spot, they're as good as useless.

Thanks for the wise words. Went for a quick run out tonight with a mate who has a Hope Vision 2, very bright but doesn't seem to have much of a flood. Knocked spots off the RXP mind.

Not sure what the RRP is going to be in the UK (€450) but check out the Silva Sprint... 1050 lumens of "Intelligent Lighting"... if the beam is the same spread and penetration as the Alpha but more than X2 as powerful, it'll be a doosie.

Fully agree regarding the beam pattern. A flood is what you need for running.

I've been happily using a Petzl Duo14 (only 67 lumens!) for the past few years because the beam pattern is ideal. I'd now like something brighter but I don't think I'll need to pay ££100s to get something suitable. The HP11 is currently looking favourite - 277 lumens should be plenty but I just need to check that the beam is wide enough and not one of those spots that make you go cross-eyed...

So pretty much £450 with the exchange rate being what it is. I haven't been able to find a UK dealer (silva.se say it's on sale in September so it may not be available yet). Not that I'd be in the market at that price.
