The Medical profession used to scoff at the idea that knee supports - a flimsy bit of material around the knee - could possibly help knee pain - and yet patients were insistent that they did - again they probably work by increasing sensory input from around the knee, thus reducing the range of movement and protecting the joint structures from stress. Just like taping.

Taping definatly works. As well as increasing proprioception it helps support structures. I've seen it work for plantar fasciitis (with very good results several times) and patella tracking.

Its only a tempory fix and the root cause of the problem should still be addressed.
