    Sorting a toenail-less toe?

Don't read this if your eating...

    - My running shoes are a bit too small for me (I've only got one pair).
    - My second toe (the one next to the big toe) is longer than all the others, and always rubs. It had developed a thick top of dead skin on the end of it.
    - I went a long way on Saturday, when I'd finished the toe was a mess. There was a lot of fluid behind the dead area that I squeezed out. The toenail wanted to come off, so I gritted my teeth and removed it. All the dead skin on the end of the toe came off with the toenail.

I've lost plenty of toenails through my long distance walking, but I've never had anything this sore before. I have a 'red raw stump'.

I'd like to enter the Stanage Struggle next Sunday, so I really need this digit to heal to the extent where I can patch it up enough to race.

Do you have any advice for speeding up the healing process?
Do you have any advice as to how to go about dressing the toe to protect it?
Do you have any advice about how to temporarily deal with a red raw stump to give the ability to cope with a 10k-er?

    Cheers, Joe

At the risk of stating the obvious should you not be looking for shoes that fit your feet?

I used to get this all of the time...never managed to grow my big toenails! I even had false ones applied to look nice when I was a bridesmaid!
Then I got wise and got a half size bigger in my running shoes!

Joe, buy some shoes that fit and have fun with the chiropidist

You only get one pair of feet. Although if I remember correctly you live in Derbyshire so that may not be strictly true

    HUNDRED QUID - :w00t:

You need to refine your shopping skills sir. Give Pete Bland Sports or Sportshoes.com a whirl

£55 for the pure fell option at http://www.sportsshoes.com/product/W...running-shoes/

or £60 for more trail oriented Mizunos http://www.peteblandsports.co.uk/pro...3-red-aw11.htm

Lots of options out there, sportshoes have some roclites at £45 depending on what size you feet are. £100 could get ya two pairs, sorted for trail and fell.

And no I dont have £100 spare, Gin isnt free ya know
