    Wanted....Mountain Bike Advice

Any suggestions for a Mountain Bike to use in adventure races, want something basic and easy to maintain as i'm not too technically up on bikes.
I've been told to get a hardtail and keep it as light as possible but.......??

If anyone has one they want to sell secondhand to keep the cost down and is in genuinely good condition let me know (ideally north east England)

    Cheers

    Auld Ken

......am thinking of doing open5 race at Staveley in couple of weeks and am probably borrowing one for my first race

we bought specialised (under 300 quid)and they have proved tough and kid resistant. Hard tail but suspension on front forks. The boys have hammered them down some reasonably serious stuff and mine has been miles on trail etc. Now has 'road' tyres to get to work. Not sure hwta they weigh but I can lift mine over gates etc.

I've got a Genesis Core 20 it's a fantastic bike. The Core 10 is cheaper and they're both on sale at Evans I think.
