    Angry Groin and hamstring!

I have had a long term hamstring injury which was fine to run on but seems to have been aggravated by a groin strain which I got on a training run over Christmas! I am now stuck with two injuries which, despite rest and stretches, dont seem to be getting any better. I know its like asking how long a piece of string is but does anyone know how long these groin strains normally hang around for?

It is the other way around for me, groin strain first (early December) then right hamstring (late December). I had a bit of rest over Christmas and I thought I was better, but groin is still uncomfortable and the hamstring has been bad again these last two days....

I'm going to give it another week's rest and if it is no better I'll book into to see a physio or something like that. last time I had a chronic strain, ultrasound and a massage worked wonders where 4 weeks of rest had failed.

    Re: Groin and hamstring!

I've had this problem as well. the groin went first, followed by the hamstring. rested it for a few weeks, started running and the problems remained, but i was able to run without major problems. but after a year, i was becoming increasingly frustrated as it wasn't getting any better, even with regular trips to physio/chiropractice. In the end i went to see a specialist doctor and he thinks i've got a sportsmans hernia, which is affecting the region. I'm seeing a specialist in a few weeks in sheffield, and he will diagnose me properly. I'll probably have to have an opperation, but if this will help, i just want to run pain free and without any problems in the future.
If you want any further infoamtion, pm me.

Is that the same condition as 'Gilmore's Groin' ?

Apparently : "The most notable clinical sign is dilation of the superficial Inguinal ring on the affected side, which can be palpated by the examining doctor when the scrotum is inverted with the little finger."

Sportsmans hernia and gillmores groin are the same thing. It's a fairly recently diagnosed injury. Dave norman had it successfully corrected, along with alistar cragg.

    Re: Groin and hamstring!

I once had a pulled inguinal ligament. Was a very acute injury, and I couldn't even walk for several days. Then it started to fade off gradually, but it was around 8-10 weeks before I could run again if I remember correctly. And it still bothered me for a while after that. It's completely gone now though (2 years later).

Good luck. Hope it's not that Gilmore's Groin, and more just a pulled something.

    Hamstring problems

Following on from having a virus a couple of weeks ago, I started training again thinking I'd be OK, as until the end of May I had enjoyed over 18 months injury free!
I did my first track session, deliberately running in the next group down from when I was fit (still a good group though, indeed it included The Heathens amongst others! ). The session was 24 x 200M with reducing recovery - on the 10th rep, suddenly... twang... left hamstring shooting pain right down from the bum to the back of the knee. Had to completely stop and thought I'd really done some damage.
However, had a swim the next day and was OK so ran the following day - was OK. Saw the physio who didn't find any damage so thought it was just one of those things... anyway, 10 minutes into the Sunday run, same thing happens... made my way home and arranged to see the physio again on Thursday. The area is a bit sore walking around now, but I suspect it will be OK again by midweek, like last time.
Now I think it's going to be a long hard summer Anybody got any ideas/comments?...

Injuries are alwasy bad, I've been off a full year now, and the year before I never managed to be back in full gear.
    Good luck.

    Re: Hamstring problems

Thanks RVN - I'll post the results of my physio consultation tonight - she has suggested also that it could be neural too. I just want to get running again - hate seeing all my fitness evaporating whilst I am sitting out loads of races I'd like to be doing, like Stretfords on Tuesdays and the Sale Sizzlers...
