I've recently got a pair of Inov8 Roclite 315's and they are brill for longer distance traily stuff - cushioned, comfy, hard wearing, fairly light - minus point is they don't drain very well

I now cover pretty much all my training/races with Mudrocs, 315's or Mizuno Harriers

Inov 8's seem to be coming out top. I agree - If I could only have one shoe (which I don't - I have s***loads!) it would be a mudclaw for an all round fell shoe. That said, I can't remember what I wore last time I did the High Peak 40, Probo, but if I was doing it again I'd don my X Talons which I love almost as much as my Inov8 Baregrips but neither of them last two minutes.

I'd agree that the Mudclaw is a good all round shoe but anything that's an "all-rounder" is always a compromise. You may need to compromise on something like a car which costs ££thousands but not on a fell shoe... just get a few pairs for different terrains/occasions.

Whichever way you look at it, fellrunning is a cheap sport!
