Get down to Holmfirth Harriers on a Tuesday or Thursday evening - they do lots of off road training runs.
cheers, eveings are difficult with having kids, was thinking about routes for when had some free time (weekends/days off) to drive somewhere different and take in a longer run or at least a different route
cheers anyway
Dunno: I've got kids and I find evenings much easier if I just bugger off for a run!
Only kidding.
Tao begets one. One begets two. Two begets all things.
Hi there,
You lucky fellow! I used to live in Holmfirth and regularly ran in a loop up past the reservoirs Brownhill, Ramsden etc. Usually got a bit lost near Holme Moss but just get on some of the forest tracks and you'll be alright. The Holme Moss race route should give you also some ideas. Also try to get in touch with Holmfirth club - even if you can't make the training they're a great club with friendly advice.
I live in Meltham and go up on Black Hill or Holme Moss, but got a bit lost on HM in the fog on Sunday morning.
The meltham way is a nice 10 mile circuit.
If you fancy a bit of a drive, it's only 15 minutes to Dove Stone reservoir, towards Greenfield - some great routes up onto the moors around there.
cheers for info, ill have to get an os and take a wander in next few weekends
egor
If you go to Langsett Barn (on the Sheffield road out of H'firth, past the Flouch roundabout) then that opens up the fells for you there. The "Mickleden Straddle" route starts at the car park and once you're up on the tops, at Cut Gate or Margery Hill, you can vary options considerably.
Personally, a circular run from Holme village up to Isle of Skye road then up the PW to Black Hill, across to Holme mast and then down to the village (either by road or track) is a pretty good 1h 30mins. Have even done this in winter a few times so it's OK with a headtorch...
Alternatively, Crowden and Bleaklow are a little further afield....
Try a pm to "Compo" on the forum, he probably has lots of routes in the area mapped out or look at the fell section at www.holmfirthharriers.com for some more info. Plenty of good runs in the area, many paths/trods not marked on the map so get up there and give it a go, who wants to run where everyone else is? I get up there often on a Sunday and rarely see many others.
cheers for all info, an new os map and 'i wont be back for dinner' to the missus. next free weekend ill head up there and see where i can get lost.
