    Peroneal Op - Recovery Time?

    Hi,

After 3 yrs of scans, poking and prodding, I've just had an op to sew up a tear in my peroneal tendon. Laid up in a cast at the moment - for the next ten days I think.

Has anyone been through similar? Any advice on recovery times & what might happen next would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Your Orthopod will tell you what to expect and when, and in particular when you can get back to running. Sounds like you have an interesting story to tell .....

Where precisely in your peroneal was the tear Mark? I have had terrible trouble with my peroneals over the years and it wasn't until I focussed on off-road that things started getting better. I always felt that I'd got a minor tear in it high up above the ankle bone when it joins the peroneal longus.

Thanks Mike - had the op done by a specialist in Edinburgh & was a bit woozy when he spoke to me after the surgery... follow up will be back at my local hospital here in Inverness (coming back home was not one of the most pleasant journeys I've had!)... so it'll be a few days until I get to hear the full prognosis, though I'm guessing it will be a lengthy process.

Sorry Martyn - don't really know that yet either - guess I find out more wehen the cast comes off. The op was 'exploratory' so they didn't know precisely what they were going in to fix before they started (nothing showed up on the various scans)... and post op I wasn't in the best state to find out too much.
