Did it a few years back in 2000 - a bit too much tarmac for me so going to head up to Buckden as I still have not done this race.

Did it last 2 years, but crocked this year. Not happy as best result I had all last year.

Climbing is mostly gradual, so no walking nonsense. Suits quicker runners as the descent is a proper burn up and very good fun, with a nasty little road climb to finish off.

Racing flats are perfectly OK if its fairly dry. A flat out race in Walshes would just about wear them out.

You're not wrong. I did it twice this afternoon.
70 minutes as a recce at 1.30pm and 52 minutes in the race at 3pm.
The first and last miles were tarmac.
The middle mile was mostly grass (with a few paving slabs) and the remainder was shale track.
My GPS said it was 6.08 miles and even Garmin (which greatly over-estimates climb) could only manage 1150 feet. Sport Tracks didn't even get above 900 feet.
Having said that I did enjoy it, especially the last half mile up the hill where I caught two runners. Unfortunately the very narrow finish funnel started about 150 metres before the finish and although I squeezed past one of them there was no room to pass the second!
