Benny was a cracker Grouse, awkward B*gger to the end....

For me wilderness & mountains I guess... not running in particular..... but, an exceptional teacher (Frank Mason) at secondary school, who took a reet mixed bunch of kids "Rambling" most weekend's and on annual 10 day Whit' YHA jaunts around the UK mountains... and the older (than me) guys & gals in the Rucksack Club who showed me the way to mountain enlightenment (plus my Mum & Dad)... it was a hard church at times, but the rewards are forever....

    Not clever & often stupid..

Re: Do you have a hero?

An old next door neighbor called Gerry Foreman first got me running seriously when I was a kid. At the time I had no idea what fell running was or what he had acheived. It was only later on that I found out he had several BG's under his belt as well as Fellsman's and other long stuff. He used to let me train with him up the golf course, where he would proceed to do hill reps till he threw up. 'Thats how you know you've done a good session' he would say !!!
If you cant change something, change the way you feel about it !

    Excellent stuff Mud

I shall carry this thought with me this week end.

Heros-Joss Definitely, also Steve Redgrave a true athlete and Lance Armstrong a real fighter.

Emiel Puttemans (and, embarrrassed to admit, Foster in his glory days. No one could destroy a field like him.)
And back to the police theme, how about the obvious 'Rocks-Anne'?
