    many thanks for all replies.

    need a cheap bike computer too to measure ze cadence, will buy a skewer, don't think I'll bother with a tyre as my existing was worn anyway so will knacker it this winter and buy new road tyre next spring..

    while we're on the subject any recommendations for sessions? I have a HR monitor and am doing intervals at 3/4 of mhr which is between 150-160bpm

    I there are websites with sessions but just wondering what others have found useful?

    granty-what is a 4 x5?

    For good sessions, have a look at www.thesufferfest.com

    They're films that you download of race footage with effort/intensity level cues... makes the turbo almost bearable.

    You're on the right track getting something to measure your cadence - I've got an old Boardman computer from Halfords - , it will be another thing to keep your mind occupied & give you greater option of workouts. As has also been said you'll need a decent fan, buff, sweatbands & some cloths/towels/beer towels to drape over your bike - & floor if you're allowed inside - to soak up your sweat & something to entertain yourself like an MP3/ Digital radio/dvd player.

    There are some sessions on these old threads;

    I've just decided I don't trust you anymore.
