It does look the business certainly, and as a watch-pervert I was getting a bit excited by the look of it. No matter that this might appeal to the 'all gear no idea' crew; it looks stunning, does the trick, and if you're gonna use it & can afford it, why not benefit from its more stylish looks?

Benefit may have been the wrong word. Enjoyed is probably better. Which, if you take the view that a watch is a watch is a watch, still might be an alien concept. However I love watches, and personally think this one is watch porn. And porn that I can't afford.

It's always surprised me why more of these outdoors / sports watches aren't designed with just the capability to give you an OS grid ref.
I'm convinced that's just what most people want - without all the other GPS shenanigans (mapping, tracing, route-storing, route-following, waymarks, etc etc).
And it really amazes that they make GPS watches that WON'T give you a grid ref. Now that really is daft.

With you on that one SS, though it is a thing some people just don't understand. When it comes to decent watches that will last this is cheap, very cheap and would make a great everyday watch to wear at work or in the hills.

Don't all the watches have a basic track and return home(back track) button. but yes I agree with you having the grid ref facility would make it better but they aren't a navigation aid they are a training aid with some nav functions.

yeah, but I think it's telling that they include what seem to be more fancy and complex nav functionality rather than the grid ref facility which seems pretty basic

as was suggested on the other thread, it's probably because sales of handhelds would be hit

so many people I've heard say, all they want is a grid-ref, as a safety back-up to relocate

and the only watch you can get it on is, what £200-£300....?

playing devils advocate for the moment, the only people that would need os gb grid are brits (or people in Britain) but Garmin is sold world wide so it would be useless the them, the more map datums they use the more memory the higher the price. Lat/Long is used the world over so it make sense really.
