    Here my local trig:

Anyone care to say or guess where it is before I give the answer?

They never move them, and it's illegal to interfere with them in any way. They are in essence calibrated instruments.

Yes it's panorama that's gone wrong - but its a real trig and view!
Here is one of the original pics. IMG_3573.jpg

Thanks for the clue, Mark: I had been wondering where there were such impressive mountains so close to such an unimpressive town . After extensive searching on OS 1:50000 sheet 89, and a bit of help from geograph.org.uk, I have worked out that it is the trig at 129m spot height, just off the path from St. Bees Head to Whitehaven: see also http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4494310 . Is that West Cumberland Hospital on the left of the picture? It's certainly Great Borne, Red Pike and High Stile in the centre, with Crag Fell on the right.

Correct title for the picture: "If only the weather was like that on the day of the Ennerdale Race." [I wasn't there, I just read about it.]

Well done you've got it. Credit to both of you but extra points to anthonykay for his research. Yes that is the West Cumberland hospital and the fells as described. Part of Pillar is on the right.
Some great views from that top field. I'm pleased I went.IMG_3572.jpgIMG_3576.jpg

That's Dent in the second picture.

Scothall Road if I'm not mistaken. Think it used to be moorland and quarries before the main road and housing was built in it.
