Edale Skyline Fell Race

Would like to enter this event as my partner and friend are completing but just looked at the entry form being a newbie i've never entered an event but have been mountaineering/rockclimbing / long distance walking/cycling for 25years. Going to try and enter some events before march but edale entry fills up fast so you carnt leave it to the last minute. So my question is with my lack of race experience would there be any point applying ? cheers dave

Send Andy J a PM a tell him what you've done and what experience you have.

the decision is his to make. we've had some pretty epic weather over the last few years so you need top be able to show you can cope.

the other thing to consider is can you make the cut off at mam Nick, might be worth trying that first.

Just had a look at the course on mapmyrun and it shows total ascent as c.2500ft - is that right??

Mapmyrun smooths height gains excessively. dark peak claim 4500' plus, and that's a much more realistic figure.

Everyone says the race proper starts at Mam Nick but that is slightly over half way and the majority of the climbing is in the first half. Despite the statistics I would agree it certainly gets interesting from Mam Nick onwards.

So even though the first half is much harder everyone says the race starts at Mam Nick. Is this because the first half is so hard and the cutoff so tight for the average mortal that there is far less left in the tank than normal so even the smaller amount of climbing feels harder than it would. So what are the stats to Mam Nick ?. I know the whole thing is reported as 4500 ascent and 21 miles. Are we saying to Mam Nick is something like 3000 and 12 miles ?.
