It's mainly up to the runner to be aware, but for champs races etc. it's handy for someone in the club (normally the captain) to 'refresh the memories' of their runners a couple of days before the entries go live. The captain could even enter their runner (fnarr fnarr) if necessary!
I put the race dates in my calendar, and then put the entry dates in as well with a reminder to check a few days beforehand. I can see why people would miss out when entries open 8 months ahead of time, but 5-6 weeks not so much - though at times life does get in the way.
As is I reckon the Skyline RO may be open to a quiet email more than a slagging off on facebook!

Ooooohhhh Matron
Maybe if they weren’t so busy on Facebook they would have known when the entries opened!
My thoughts on not turning up for a race are if a runner pays for their entry they should be free to do what they want with their entry even if that means another runner missing out who could have got an entry if they had decided to be organised
I believe that's a 'free market view' which you are fully entitled to, but to which I do not fully subscribe.
Hopefully those who realise in time they can not race will hand their places back at the earliest convenience so someone on the waiting list can have a spot with some warning!
