    Shoe advice for roads

    Hi,

New to running and got NB MT101s and find them really good for the fells and soft surfaces but on hard trails and tarmac I find I get a bit of pain in my arch and a slight pins and needles feeling in my feet.

Don't want to break the bank as road running will be few and far between but would fancy a sturdier shoe that will be more comfortable on hard trails and roads.

JJB had NB 573s at the weekend for £20. Anyone use these? They are sold as a trail shoe but look to have more to them than the 101s.

I do a bit of both and I've never found a trail shoe that's OK on road. But there's plenty of road shoes that are manageable off road.

Nike come closest in the ones I have tried.

I like the Vomero and Pegasus and you can get a Pegasus Trail with a bit more tread in case you are running on mixed terrain.

Shop around and you may find the last season style on offer for £50 or order of PB where the prices are as good as you can get really.

Really ? The trail versions of road shoes by Nike, Saucony, Asics, Mizuno etc etc are absolutely fine for road arent they?

I use these anyway, which are great for v gentle trails and road:

I have a Nike pair now (not the Pegasus) and the little studs on the bottom just give a slightly unusual feel. I've also found shoes like Mizuno, Swoops, Kanadia are gret for races where you have off road and road - a compromise - but that's what they are.
