Thread: Winter Hill Fell Race

    Re: Winter Hill Fell Race

Huge thanks to all concerned for this race and to all who volunteered to man ckp's or even just hang about snapping photos or shouting encouragement. A big shout out to the very helpful Bolton MR crew at ckp7 who volunteered to take me back in the land rover but as a dnf was not on the agenda I was more than grateful for the tlc and painkillers although did decline the super duper send you wappy ones!!

Can I also add that I hope my number was legible on the entry form it was certainly intended that all info could be read and I'm glad no one had to resort to referring to it, as I wasnt one of the unaccounted (disastrous result nonetheless) but in my defence (and maybe accounts for others) it was snowing whilst trying to fill it in outside with no protection and with fingers that could barely grip a pen no excuse for those omitting it completely however.

Well whatever the distance/climb, it was a beast of a race.

It was getting so much wheelspin trying to get up the big hill, I was feeling a bit weak by the time I'd reached the top, so much so I had to resort to my emergency Snickers bar that's been in my race pack all year. Only problem was it frozen solid, I could barely eat the damn thing.

I've had the same issues with PowerBars when out on the bike in winter. Having a frozen bottle & 'PB' coming back over Saddleworth, or Woodhead Pass is a bit annoying
Generally to be found plodding along with 'www.ackworthroadrunnersandac.co.uk'

I didn't have a Garmin, but I assume that the race must have been at least 30k. Can't think how else I could have taken so long.....
Can't remember being that cold after a race - really struggled. Enjoyed the second half of the race (took me a while to wake up!). Shame about the visibility - nearly didn't see the masts!

Yep, looks like it was Steve Bateson. I was wondering who it was.

Can't see Winter Hill 2104 race in calendar, and hearing stories the race is not being run due to "scientific interest" in the bogs?
    Any one heard similar?

Thanks peawet08 so it's true! gutted.... Missed last years race due to work commitments.
Wonder if the Scientific Interest was a way of stopping a wind farm?

Though agree Erosion is a problem as seen on other races like Tour of Pendle which has diversions from original race route.

Worrying Trend.. did Noone Stone go the same way?
