    band from oldham

I was in Manchester at another INXS gig last night - they have a policy on this tour to let small local bands do the support slot...on the is occasion it was 'the cassettes' from Oldham. Young lads, bloody nervous at the start, but they put on a good show. Anyone else know of them - chaddy for example ?

I remember some Tinkers from Oldham

    Pennine Runners

Three Pennine Runners went up to’’ th’’ hut,
The beans were on the primus all covered with soot.
One Pennine Runner went to shut the door,
The beans fell off the primus and covered the floor.

Three Pennine Runners looking very sad,
One said to th’’ other ""Ee my lads that’’s bad.
For there goes our supper, sustaining and supreme.
How can a Runner exist without his beans?"".

Then in the distance coming very quick.
Came a Pennine Runner and in hand a stick.
An’’ in t’’other, what do you think was seen?
You’’re right first time lads, a dozen tins of beans.

Soon the Pennine Runners were sat down to a feed.
Each the other’’s capacity was trying to exceed.
When they had finished they couldn’’t get through the door.
So they had to spend the night with the beans upon the floor.

Now my gentle Runners my story it is told.
And if you’’ll take my advice you’’ll eat your beans stone cold, without a spoon

Rob - Changing the subject slightly. What about Yazoo?

I've just listened to both of their albums 'Upstairs At Eric's' & 'You And Me Both' for the first time in ages and i can honestly say there's hardly a bad track on either of them.

For some reason, even though i've never met you in my life, i feel the need to ask your opinion on them.

    I totally agree Danbert.
Totally under-rated. It took an eternity for the Uk to realise that 'situation', for example, was an fantastically querky and highly danceable tune. My favourite is 'nobody's diary' although i have spent many an evening dancing to 'don't go'.
Vince Clarke was at his best then. His subsequent stuff with Erasure seems lightweight compared with Yazoo (listen to Erasure's first ever release - 'who needs love like that'....sounds EXACTLY like Alison Moyet.)
