    Road Bike Saddles

Todays Bike Ride thread is very popular so there are a lot of 'roadies' out there all sat on more or less comfortable saddles. I know there are 'try before you buy' schemes and are slots/channels good or evil arguments as well as some old soak on here who probably inherited their Grandads leather Brooks from circa 1925 and have nearly broken it in but.............what are folk sitting on that is genuinely comfortable? Clearly we are a gender neutral Forum but it would be useful if we know which gender style saddle you are talking about to save time and confusion.
    Right over to you.........................

comfort doesn't really seem to be much of a priority with most roadies and their saddles ..

well, mine's a bit like this:

and it's fine - at least, I don't really think about it ...

Fizik Arione on road bike and TT bike, Fizik Pave on cross bike and Fizik Tundra on mountain bike.. as a brand it just seems to suit my posterior.. that said, the real keys to a comfy backside are decent shorts and chamois cream.

I don't have time to ride much these days, but I still think the hard narrow saddles are best: less to get in your way. Mind you, after a lay-off the first ride or two always left me in agony every time I needed to pee. And don't make the mistake of having the saddle angled too far up at the front! That make the same problem a lot worse (he said with feeling). No idea of the details of female requirements in this area: I never liked to enquire too closely.

Spot on Splatcher, big, padded saddles cause you to bounce up and down too much increasing the damage. As with owt else, it takes time to get used to them, but like owt else in life, you've got to go through a bit of pain sometimes.

I have a 146mm Bontrager RLX on my bike and it's been fine. That said, I have to agree with Nikalas - once I'd learned about decent shorts and chamois cream I was a much happier camper.

Mrs P's bike has one of those female-specific saddles and she says it knocks spots off the legacy unisex saddles. Hard for me to argue.
