    Playstation 2

Right, my PS2 is on the blink and my little lad is driving me nuts wanting to use it. Basically, it switches on but regardless of which game is in it, the screen goes as though there's no disk. A feint clicking noise comes from the CD drive.

Any suggestions (other than get a life )?

Presumably this is happening to every disk you put in?
Does it happen if you play a DVD as well?

Haven't tried a DVD, but all games do the same thing (ie not work.)

this might sound a bit obvious but have you tried cleaning the discs? There is also a little eye in that might need pushing back. I have ad this problem and i unplugged the playstation and pulled out all the wires and than it worked

Cheers RR. I've also found a site that shows you how to dismantle the PS2 and clean the laser. It appears to be common problem.

A mate of mine found that site but did not dare dismantle his PS2 but pulling wires and plugs out worked for me

Do you think you can use the lasers for little Star Wars lego people? O'm going to go and take my old cd player to pieces.

Have to be careful there as laser regs say you can only shine a laser in your eye for 20 seconds before it does damage.

Just a quick trial thing. Turn it on without a disk in it.
Hopefully once it is up and running you should get a screen showing your memory card(s).
Put a disk in now and let it automatically try and find it.
    Does it?
If not, then it could be that your laser is slightly out of align. Not sure how to correct it though, just what someone told me!
