Re: Welsh 1000 Metre Peaks rac

Yes, it's all straight forward. The main tricky bit is a section at the top of the miners track at Caseg y Fraith to the cairns which mark the top of the miners track dropping down the other side. From Bwlch Tryfan to Caseg y Fraith is a bit sketchy in places.

The other section is where you leave the miners track as it crosses a wall low down, then head around to Pen Y Pass swining around the LHS of the llyn and the RHS of Moel Berfedd. There's a trod developed now and this is marked near PyP to aid. Worth a recce though.

    Wink Welsh 1000m peaks

I have entered the junior class on a bit of a whim and am seeking any advice on how to train best for 8m with 4000ft of ascent. I usually do a mix of 2 short races a week (due to age restraints) and a longish 12m run on a mix of road and fell. How should i best prepare myself for 3000ft of ascent all in one go as the biggest climbs near me are only 1000ft. Any help would be much appreciated. Should i go for distance or short steep ascents.
    Thanks
    Tom

What's the route of the junior one? Is that the normal shorter route, ogwen > Snowdon?

If so the climbs aren't too bad, a steep climb to llyn Bochlwyd, then steady climb, interspersed with steep sections, from Pen Y Pass to the summit. PyP is 350 m high, Snowdon 1085, so it's more like 2500ft in one go, but is broken by some quite longish flattish sections.
