Thread: Legs 3-5 This Weekend

Thanks Baggins. My mind was going a bit fuzzy after 14 hours. I had brilliant support runners but I was the only one with recent familiarity with that bit of the route. I remembered the gully being fairly solid then an easy scramble on the left edge. We must have headed up the wrong gully. It didn't slow us down much but there were lots of loose rocks and I certainly wouldn't reccommend that route to anyone else. It had seemed obvious on my recces so I hadn't thought of it as a potential error point.

[QUOTE=Baggins;484002]The steep gully near the ridge is the one to avoid, red gully is further across much more solid under foot.

So Red Gully must be further right. Is it a gully or a path then ?

I put a few photos up of your BG if you'd like them?
As it happens, I took this picture of Red Gully last week. Hope this helps clarify.

I think the best gully (red gully?) is further left. Might be wrong though. There's also a path up the shoulder to the right. Two reasonable options, probably no more than a minute or two difference either way.

Thanks Martyn. That is actually the gully we took (correct me if I'm wrong Duncan but it all stacks up) so this is the best line ?!? Like Duncan says though - not much in it either way - it didn't slow us down ! Thanks all. More confused now but not worried !

Yes thats red, you can get on the rib to the left just after the start,

You would pass under Joss's to get to red

Three of us took different lines a couple of winters ago 1 red gully 2 the ridge 3 line on Wasdale side of ridge and we all apeared on the flatter area of Kirkfell at the same time so only seconds in it!
Don't think Joss's would be any different just feels harder.

Great pics. Can anyone tell me what the mountain is called that's in quite a few of the photos from about 7 onwards? Looks amazing.

Thats Steeple, was trying to get it on the skyline but couldn't get any lower due to a large cliff!

Thanks for that. Never seen it before, but might be coming across it at the weekend. What a sight.
