I normally put on aftershave before going to a race....I just assumed most people did.
It's mainly a social event at my end of the field, and I don't get out much.

The problem is, it normally takes me so long to finish that I need to shave again before the end.

I had this very conversation with my other half after the Coledale Horseshoe. As you can imagine, she was enthralled.

I was saying it seems odd that some people wear aftershave for a race when you're going to get sweaty and dirty, and that it's a shame to suddenly get a lungful of Paco Rabanne's finest when you'd rather be breathing in the cold fresh air. I put it down to some people making a special effort as it was a British Champs race. I prefer to go au naturel.

If I want to do well in a race, I wear strong aftershave so as to poison the other competitors in the pre-race huddle.

On the same lines, Mrs Noel avoids standing near traffic before a race because the carbon monoxide irreversibly binds to her haemoglobin (or something like that).

I'm trying some Afro-American aftershave called eau de do da day in the hope it will make me run faster:w00t:

I always find it surprising when I'm stood at the start of a fell race and there is a beautifully made up woman smelling strongly of perfume amongst the general waft of deep heat and stinky hellys. I always feel a mixture of slight admiration (for always making an effort to look your best even when faced with rain and endless bog) and asphyxia...I would aspire to such things if I thought the make up would a) not end up sliding down my face panda fashion b) not elicit sarcy comments from those that know me well as someone who only makes those kind of efforts when I'm going somewhere posh/townified or have a date.

A subtle whiff of aftershave on the fells is an odd thing but I imagine it could be quite pleasant on the right fellrunning gentleman.

What I can't understand is this talk of aftershave before racing, surely it's for when you get home late from a night run and you are too tired to shower but don't want to be too offensive to the mrs. :w00t:

No aftershave for me after a race. I always have a shower. It's not until then that I concentrate on being offensive to Mrs Splatcher...
