I'm off to run 1000 miles...

    Hello everyone,

I just wanted to tell you all quickly about where I'm going tomorrow. Train from Sheffield to Gatwick, fly to Vienna, then start running...

I will be running for 30 days or so, west across the Alps, then south down to Nice. I'm running about 30-40 miles each day, carrying a pack with Mountain Marathon kit (if your MM was a month long!), and will be camping most nights.

The main reason for doing this is to raise money for a brilliant charity called Water for Kids. They are very small, with about 10 part time staff, but work really hard to secure water supplies in the developing world. Cholera, Dysentry and Typhoid kill millions of people, especially children every year, but with the simple and relatively cheap stuff they can do these deaths can be avoided. As they are a small charity the money goes straight to the projects in the field.

So, as you can all appreciate that running 1000 miles is going to be flipping difficult, I'd ask you to consider donating to Water for Kids. You can read all about the challenge on my website (www.bigalpsrun.eu) and blog (www.bigalpsrun.blogspot.co.uk), and donate at www.justgiving.com/bigalpsrun.

You can also donate by text. To send a tenner, text "ALPS 70 £10" to 70070.

Thanks everyone, see you in June!

That sounds like a great expedition and a great cause. Best of luck.
Fitness can't be stored. It must be earned over and over, indefinitely.

Absolutely brilliant, best of luck! Puts all these celebrity fundraising challenges to shame!

From what I can gather, not being fully conversant with twittering and the like, Stuart arrived in Nice a couple of days ago, having successfully completed the full 1000 miles in 30 odd days. Hopefully he'll be along in due course to tell us a bit about it, but in the meanwhile I know he'd appreciate donation of whatever size to his JustGiving site (see original post). Congratulations, Stu ... and next time perhaps consider taking Darth of the Dark Side along (who happily professes his 'boredom threshold' to lie at around 15 miles).

Yeah - he did complete it with a MM pack over many cols and summits by the sound of it. A mammoth task - so don't forget you can donate too by text as above - I'm sure he'd like to raise a fair bit more yet !

    Hi all,

Thanks for your messages and support! I did indeed finish in Nice last thursday and am now back in the real world... It was an absolutely fantastic adventure, just incredible! I've written a very short write-up with a few photos if you're interested - http://bigalpsrun.blogspot.co.uk/201...h-summary.html More on the way (at some point...)

    Cheers,
    Stu
