    Sports Shoes Unlimited Tragedy

As I have not been on the forum for a while ( I looked in a few weeks ago, but saw Stolly was still with us so thought I would wait a bit longer) so this may be old news.

During my fortnightly visit to Sports Shoes Unlimited to lech at the shoes and strokes the gusset's of the running tights I was shocked to be told that the place is closing to go online only, the last trading day is apparently 2nd July. The online business will continue but due to the lease being up and increases they can't continue with the shop though they are saying they are still looking for alternative premises.

If this is the case (and some of you may know more accurate info) it will be a major blow, it is a great place to try stuff on, get great deals and bump into forumites. Do people know about this or have thoughts.

On the equipment thread, its too important to be down there, what are people thinking, that heading is browsed by tossers who have a rubber compound session.

I'm afraid that's what will happen with specialist stores when all that people do is search for the cheapest price.
Having to heavily discount and work on low profit margins while paying ever increasing rents, rates and staff wages will result in more store closures.
Support your specialist retailer or lose them!

I always have, I've bought almost all my running kit from there for years, and so have most of my clubmates too. I gather it's largely down to NCP whacking the rent up. Stupid move really because rather than having a regular tenant occupying a large unit (albeit at a lower rent than what they want), they'll now have an empty unit that, given the state of Bradford city centre, they'll struggle to fill at all.

The place gets worse. I pass swarms of boarded up shops on the 5 minute walk from the station to work. Soon I'll be able to see another one from my office window (right under an NCP car park). Still, at least there's a new fountain eh.

Tragic really, if all those shops who promised to move in and support the city centre regeneration plans had actually stuck by what they said, we'd be well on the way to a thriving city centre by now. As it is, it's just a wasteland.
Or at least that's how I understand it..?
