    Re: Rhinog Horseshoe

Never ran the race but hope to this time around, but have walked it loads of times and is a classic route.

Few pointers I know of are that there a are a few good lines to take up to Fawr above the mountain wall; as most of you already mentioned descending off Fawr to Bwlch Drws is very tricky if you take the direct, steep gully so best thing to do is swing off the the east (of if your on Fawr summit then to the left) - only thing is here is that it looks as if you are swinging to far east but it does eventually swing back on itself. Getting up Fach is staright up the visible path - nice and steep, if you fancy something easier then swing to your left or east and theres a route that takes you around and to the summit. Route down to Llyn Hywel (joint best located lake in National Park, with Llyn Caseg - in my view!!) is easy and direct as is the steep slog up Llethr (quite possibly the flattest summit I know!) - the highest of the Rhinogydd peaks. From Llethr down and then up Moelfre easy - coming down Moelfre through the fields quite a few intricate moves possible.

Hope this helps, other pointer to note is to beware of the famed Rhinog heather - once off the path anywhere in these mountains then it's deep crevice like heather covered rock - perfect for ankle twisting!!.............

Oh aye - loads of feral goats aswell!

Why don't you PM Erno. He can tell you all about it as he still holds the course record!

Think a few of us may have encountered this little Rhinog phenomenom (Moel Ohmygod) on the DB07 .
Don't roll with a pig in poo. You get covered in poo and the pig likes it.

Just noticed on the Welsh Fell runners wesbite that they've changed the date of this bugger to Saturday, October 27th - which now clashes with both Snowdon Marathon (this year also on the Saturday) and the OMM - good timing eyhh??

Hi, Where can I find the route for the Rhinog Race, I'm a Lakes runner, missed the entry for the Langdale Horseshoe & am making my way down there, but would love to know the route before the day, so if any of you kind folk can give away the co-ordinates it would be much appreciated. Cheers

    All on here:

Definitly worth recceing. But the main hard section is between the 2 Rhinogs, don't go direct, and off Moelfre.
