    I think it would.

Also the cut offs in the Ennerdale are very tight, made it to the first checkpoint with 3 mins to spare but in the Duddon Valley had about 50 mins

The slower runners would be kept company by faster runners streaming past, and so get company. And it would result in fewer isolated runners getting lost.

That's assuming the slower runners can navigate correctly until the faster runners overtake them!

a few ideas being bounced around
the reason i started the thread was to try and see if there was alternatives for the slower runners that have just as much passion to complete the fell race as the faster ones.

Timeouts are there to prevent marshalls (who do a really boring job looking after the welfare of runners like us) from having to do it any longer than absolutely necessary.

They are NOT there so that no-hopers can enter and finish races where they are way out of their depth because they can’t be arsed putting in the training so that they can do a reasonable time.

What are you lot like? I’ll sell you an I’ve done Wasdale badge if it makes you feel better!

I agree with your first point, but the rest of the message was a little un called for?

When I saw YT had posted, I just had to click and have a read.....and I wasn't disappointed!!

Oh YT, if only we could all be as quick, nimble and god-like as you. Us mere mortals are not worthy of sharing this forum with you.

On a serious note, some good ideas on here. As Invisible said, early starts work well at the Long Mynd Valleys and the Stretton Skyline and I think extending that idea to some of the Lakes races would mean much more inclusion. I know someone who would be more inclined to have a go if that was the case.

If you’re assuming that a marshall will be happy doing the job for an extra two hours (remember the Skyline?) – it’s you that’s not being serious, pal.
