    Boulder Trundling in the Fells

So who has indulged in this aspect of the sport?

Boulder trundling may be defined as the propulsion [by humans] of fragments of the earth's crust down mountain slopes of suitable inclination sooner than would occur from the interaction of natural forces
The above definition is from the interesting book "From Kinder Scout to Kathmandu. A Rucksack Club Anthology. 1907-1986"

Saw a fair bit of this at Jura, bit of an extreme sport depending on which side of the boulder you're on.
Tao begets one. One begets two. Two begets all things.

Probably a fair proportion of the people who do the Borrowdale race.

    Woof!
But I would not be convicted by a jury of my peers.

one of the greatest of these in the british isles has to be the great stone shute in the Cullins, on skye. came down off the tops this way, fantastic scree run, (if there is any left, it was some years ago!). don't take the dog though, mine couldn't work out why the ground moved!

Last night I read about this pastime in a climbing anthology "The games climbers play". The article was from about 1932 and seem to involve deliberately propelling large boulders down steep slopes. Completely reprehensible but fantastic fun (not that I would ever do such a thing )

We had a conversation with a gentleman waiting to assist one of the BG teams over Broad Stand last weekend who had been up to Lord's Rake this winter with the serious intention of trundling the troublesome unstable boulder. Now that would be a trundle! Where would it stop?

I've had some enjoyable sessions on moraines in the Himalaya, deliberately sending cubic metre boulders downhill but none compare to the natural rockfalls that you witness in the big hills!

I would like to make it known that I have no association with trundling in this context.

Its stupid and reprehensible. It's not big and it's not clever....

Not really there any more. The Paddy Buckley descent gully off Glyder Fach was supposedly another great scree run which is now a loose mess.
