    'National 3 Peaks'

There are so many '3 peaks' events but the guide books appear to call Snowden, S Pike and The Ben the National 3 Peaks so I will stick with that. I have some time on my hands now and thought I would cycle between these 3 runs and make a long weekend out of it. One of my colleagues has agreed to drive his car along the route for support so thats covered. My question is: aside from the running, have any of you cycled the route and, if so, is there an accepted map or commonly used route itself? Not a long distance challenge by some standards I know, but it will keep me quiet for a while.

A good challenge: enjoy it. I've done it a couple of times in years gone by, racing the boats in the 3 Peaks Yacht Race. If you want to make the best of it, keep off the main roads as much as you can - slower but a lot more pleasant.

I think you'd struggle to avoid main roads until you got down to Glasgow and even after that it would be more a case of finding the lesser main roads for some time, you just don't have many options once you get away from the lowlands. My wife did Land's End to John o Groats last year and I'd say once you are somewhere level with New Lanark then you will be on quieter roads.

Without me you'd be one place nearer the back

Hi, Moorlander, the Ambrosia Kid and a non forum friend Mick Ludgate did the 3 peaks via bike two weeks ago in torrential conditions. I would drop them a line as I am sure they can provide a lot of guidance.
Never measure the height of a mountain until you reach the top, then you will see how low it is.
