Track Fairy quote:
Rightio, find me a 15km track race and I'll go and have a crack at the record. I'll probably have to go for the vets record by the time you find one!
Get Leeds City to put one on if you're that confident
they could also put a 15km road race a week later so you could compare your times
Can't believe you serisously believe it's quicker to run on the road!
If someone can't run a 10k on the track faster than on the road then it's a mental thing for them, not a reflection on the event. Any longer distances it's simply because a) no one runs them so b) no one organises them.
Who's talking about 10K? We're discussing the Hour Record and I seriously
maintain road is faster. Synthetic tracks have an elasticity in them which over time absorbs energy - Road has a hard surface which although unforgiving on the legs gives a greater thrust forward. I've been privileged to be in three races over long distances (2 track and 1 road) when the world record was broken and I can tell you road was faster
I don't agree with your logic there Gravymuncher. All you are saying is that these distances on the track have a mental element to them - which anyone who has done them knows.
The fact that it is a rarely run event is irrelevant in the context of the quality of the run.
Interestingly(?), 10k measured on the road is slightly further than 10k on the track...
You're talking about 1 set of data, it isn't statisticaly significant. Given that you didn't run both times at the same time under the same conditions there could be a hundred reasons why your track pb is slower. Probably you're just a bit soft in the head tho!
It would be bloody difficult to run both times at the same time, even for me!!!!
