    Re: Trog's Training

Another uneventful 30 minutes run complete this afternoon, so thats now 14 days solid and around 45 miles. In the grand scheme of things it is a mere drop in the ocean of the 45 thousand miles that I have covered in my life time.

I am still taking it a day at a time, I plan to do a very easy 15 minutes tomorrow prior to the race on Sunday. It is the Viking Chase near Stokesly in North Yorkshire. If all goes to plan and the body holds up I can then look to the future and put together a plan for the Winter.

    Day 15.

A gentle 2 mile trot up the old railway line.

Also managed to find my whistle, compass etc and all is now packed ready for tomorrows run in the Viking Chase.

    Re: Trog's Training

    Thanks Dan.

    Day 16

Today was the test to see where am I at, the Viking Chase.

The aim was to survive the run without any serious discomfort. I have raced further, higher and faster in the past but today was going to be the hardest run for probably 18 months.

I purposely set off right at the back and started very conservatively. Almost from the gun I was picking people off. I had set a personal goal of running to the top of the first climb which I achieved, I trotted up the second as well, mentally telling myself that I had eaten bigger climbs for breakfast in the past. A kissing gate on the lower slopes of the third broke my rhythm though and I walked up both that and the final climb.

I had a bad patch around the hour mark when one of my little toes that I broke years ago became painful but it passed and although very tired I finished the final mile by picking up another few places.

I took the dogs for a walk this afternoon, and although there are some aching bones I don’t think it is too bad but we will see what tomorrow brings.

    Overall a pleasing day

    Cheers Tahr.

    Day 17.

Feeling much better than I had expected this morning, a couple of minor areas of stiffness but nothing serious.

Went for a two mile easy run first thing this morning.

This evening I went to the Gym with Mrs Trog, an easy 10 min on a bike to warm up followed by the weight stations and rounded off with an easy 15 min on the treadmill.

I not too shabby time on the day, good one, just have to try to keep the consistent training going.

Unfortunately couldn't make it to the viking, good to see the winter series crowd out, and it was a new course record for Matt Speake.

Next up is Saltergate at 17km 14th Oct, followed by Three Tops( bit of toughy) 28th Oct, though lots of Fell/XC clashes this season unfortunately.

    Re: Trog's Training

    Cheers lads.

Day 19. Upped the time to 45 minutes which with the exception of the weekend race is the longest run since early April.

    Day 20. A very easy 20 minutes.

Day 21. I would have liked to run but a 03:30 start and a 20:30 finish away from home meant that I wimped out.

Day 22. After a few hours behind the wheel getting home I managed a 15 minute shuffle around the estate.

Day 23. Feeling much better on a 30 minute run up an old railway line.

81 miles for the month, my highest since February. The target for October is to run on at least 28 days.
