    cut on heel / achilles

I have a cut which looks like somebody has taken a slice with as sharp knife and removed the skin from the back of my heel as it meets the base of the achilles. Did it racing in a brand new pair of shoes Tuesday night or something got in there and rubbed - it was an extremely wet, muddy race so never really saw the injury until I got home and got hosed down. Very pianful to walk anywhere but better without shoes. Thing is - it's never going to heal that quick and I have a long (17 mile) race on Sunday. Quite happy not to run until then but I need to dress it so it doesn't hurt. Aim is to do the race without (much) pain not to heal the cut (although bearing in mind Langdale horseshoe coming up ...) so ... I have tried Compeed but just get a big white lump of (is it called?) exudation in the middle. I've just bought plastic skin spray, more Compeed and got some very sticky tape - any bright ideas out there?

A dirty great wad of that old-school Elastoplast brown-coloured fabric plaster swathed all over the injured area? Good luck mate!

Does it have to be 'dirty' DT? That's what I've got on currently but (call me a wimp) hurts like hell when I put on any type of footwear and try to move.

The price of going past me on that second lap...

Long shot, but superglue? What's the stuff they use in A&E for gluing cuts?

Nigel, cut a 'V' off the back of an old pair of trainers so that the wound is left alone to repair itself. This is what I did when I once had such in injury on both heels, following a very wet KIMM in the Howgills. Anything else was too painful. Not sure it will be ok to do 17 miles on Sunday though! ydt

I think the Sandstone might be muddy on Sunday so want Mudclaws, but I might have an old pair I'd be prepared to do that to.
