Thread: Best effort this year?

    Best effort this year?

OK, most insane runs of the year.

    I would nominate:
    1) Stu Walker, alps crossing Vienna to Nice. 30 days
    2) Kilian Jornet, Innominata 6:17 ( and up and down Mont Blanc in 8 hours)
    3) Ian Ridgeway, Solo Paddy Buckley in full winter conditions including blizzard on last leg. just over 24..

Jez Bragg toddling round the fellsman only an hour or so slower than normal, before it was cancelled was pretty impressive too...

Tom Philips, Winter Ramsay Round Record.
Outside of that Kilian's trip up Mont Blanc

Seconded. How about Steve Birkinshaw and Helene Whitaker's efforts at the 2012 Dragon's Back?

Jez Bragg's ongoing NZ adventure looks pretty good, but maybe save that for the 2013 retrospective.

I'd add Nicky Spinks mullering the ladies BG record in pretty shitty weather, still striding out as she reached the Moot hall.

Carwyn Phillips being only the second sub 24 hour completer of YDT's Meirionnydd Round, some 13 or 14 years after YDT's original round and a few minutes quicker to boot?
I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!

All very impressive but have to agree with you Martyn, Helene returning 20 years later and still coming 4th and first lady in the Dragon's Back was incredible

Killians Mont Blanc crossing was beyond belief, I just wish he'd have a crack at the Bob Graham record and it would be interesting to see what Jez could do too...

I am in no way contesting the awesomeness of Kilian, Jez etc. but in some ways I think the fact that (for instance) Stu Walker planned, paid for and did his 30day expedition solo (I think he had maybe one meet up with a friend to get fresh kit) and so carried all of his camping gear, bought all his own food en route etc is just as impressive as the likes of Jez who is a sponsored athlete and has a crew meeting him places, cooking him dinner and shopping for him etc. I might just be biased though because I know Stu
But in the end, journeys brought joys that outweighed the pain - F.T.

Kilian literally running up the Inominata ridge on mont blanc, I mean actually running, is just something else. Watch the film, superb!

    Jon Gay...

First sub 24 hr winter Ramsay.. mine was just another paddy.., KJ.. sorry but he's a professional... not meaning to be harsh but those guys do get more support. Jon just went out and made history.

Jez's fellsman and NZ run.. superb.. huge huge respect for Jez as he's proven himself across many areas of running, but again, I think he gets enough credit and support. Jon has just quietly got on and done something incredible without support and has made history.

So far the clear run of the year for me.
