Ian, Yes ... Look NW. They are becoming overstretched with a glut of MTB incidents on some of the more technical trails in Gisburn Forest. It seems to be the usual issues with "fashionable" pastimes .... mostly inexperienced people without the correct safety gear wanting to run before they can walk (apologies if that sounds harsh, but in a nutshell without being too wordy ).
I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!

Yes we get our fair share of MB'ers both on Cutgate (Mickledon Straddle) and Wharncliffe Woods where there are some serious marked runs.

Usually get one on Boxing day-new year. boys with new toys!!

    Coupla points....
    1. The Mountain Rescue are for everyone, they donot discriminate as to who they help be it "boys with toys" or fellrunners or tourists who dont know any better.
    2. If all their resources are being used up with "a glut" of MTB incidents then it could be a fellrunner who does not receive assistance when needed.
To try and help this problem We are trying to get a fundraising event off the ground so they can accomodate "fashionable" activites that are not going to go away.

I was only summarising, in not so many words, what the BPMRT spokesman had said ont telly:- "Recently overstretched by a lot [ is that not a "glut"] of incidents in Gisburn Forest, involving inexperienced MTBers without the correct safety gear". Did you actually see the report? I am not for one minute disputing that they are there for everybody. It's their statistics and their spokesman that are making the statement. Just answering IDP's honest question, as honestly as I could.

Might have taken this the wrong way if so Sorry.

I didn't men to imply that non mountain goers weren't worthy of MR.

MR teams are regularly called out to search for non mountain related casualties.

Kids in quarries, horse riders in fields, missing kids, missing oaps, Missing Golfers, flooding, stranded snow bound vehicles, any one in an inaccessable place that can't be driven to?

if resources are stretched then the nearest team would be called in to assist.

The point they were getting over that every call out costs and being funded by donation the money is finite. some equipment has to be replaced regularly. so something has to give.

Any fund raising would be appreciated. well done SS
