    Charlie B - serious accident

    Attachment 6592Attachment 6591
Many of you will be aware that Calder Valley Fell Runner, and co-Heptonstall Race Organiser, Charlie Boyce was involved in a nasty cycling accident a couple of weeks ago. It is still not clear what happened, but it seems that he was cycling to work in Halifax, from his home in Old Town, along Heights Road near Midgely (above Hebden Bridge). He was found in the road by a passing driver.
Charlie (or Charlie B as he's prefers to be known on the forum) spent the first few days after his accident in an induced coma having sustained a very serious head injury/bleed on the brain. He is now conscious, and we are hoping that he is on the road to recovery, but it looks like it may take some time. Now that Charlie has been moved from ICU in Sheffield to Halifax a few of us have been able to see him and we're using our visits to remind him of places, friends etc.
Charlie is a keen fell runner, particularly at home on long navigation challenges, he regularly takes part in the Saunders, LDWA events, as well as all the local races and relay events (as a Heptonstall Hurrier) around South Pennines. Besides regularly marshalling at CVFR races, Charlie is one of the 4 or 5 main instigators and orgainsers of the 2 Heptonstall Fell Races. He is a great friend to many runners in the Hebden Bridge area and beyond, his humour and dry whit are legendary. We are all hoping that he will be back on his feet and pulling our legs again once his condition improves.
In the meantime we will pass on any messages of support to Charlie, his wife Kate, and family. Keep your fingers crossed for them. We'll let you know how he is doing from time to time.

Indeed, very best wishes to Charlie B for a complete recovery.
From personal experience, it's so easy to be "caught out" just doing everyday things on your own patch.
    Please take care everyone.
