Who else is up for this 8 miler on Sunday? 10:30, Royal Oak PH, Stalybridge. It looks to be a nice little lung buster with post-race recovery in the pub.
DazTheSlug, did you enter in the end? I saw you mentioned it in 'New races for 2011'.
Nick.

Hi Nick, good to see you yesterday and a small number of other forumites plus a bundle from Glossopdale. Well, it was an interesting race, so many road runners for what was really a fell race, run with an England Athletics permit so incurred a £2 supplement for those without an EA Competition Licence. 8.1 miles, 1400ft ascent and very runnable. The road runners were OK on the tracks, but ran the descents like fairies.
Great to see you too, Marvin. I like your race synopsis.
I was prepared for a fell race and I think we got it. Was it a BM? The 'Triple X' descent was the best bit. That's where I did most of my overtaking! Tracklogs makes it 8.2 miles with 1,434' of ascent. I've just uploaded my pictures. Sorry for the lack en-route but I'm sure everyone will understand. I was chuffed to finish in the top half. (Is that thanks to the road runners?)
I've just posted a brief report.

Nice report, barnyc.
Not an official FRA race but I've walked it and it is both beautiful and varied:

They've stated that there will be parking issues, I'm heading from Meltham (Huddersfield area) so will be happy to drive if anyone else local is going, likewise happy to throw petrol pounds to anyone else who is driving.
I get the idea this was run a few years back...anyone know much about it?
A great race and a quiet (whispers) area to run and race in. My back door.
A trail run in distictly north Dark Peak district Fell-ish environs.
The route takes in / skirts the twin ~400m hills of Harridge Pike and Wildbank - great views over Manchester and across to Kinder, Cheshire Plain, Longdendale, South Pennines. Jason & Rachel (RO) do some great runs around here, so definitely worth a date in the diary.
I will be trying to make it (work schedule permitting).
Note - similar route was run as 'Lactic Acid' two years ago.

Even more interesting.
Not being local (but wedded to the area) I go off the OL1 nomenclature and not necessarily the local parlance. Hollingworth Hall Moor is indeed the route of the race between the Swineshaw reservoir(s) and the trig point, with the trig being 'Wild Bank Hill' (400m), a 15 minute uphill jog from here. Hobson Moor is lower down the hill being the pastures above here and Hobson Moor Road (past the quarry) at 300m. 'North Britain' is new to me though, and I cant ask my F-in-law as we scattered him to rest at Wild Bank a few years ago. I trust your romantic dad to know what he's on about.
The race route decends from Wild Bank Hill back down to Millbrook (east Stalybridge) - a proper fell decent.

Maybe Mods need to merge?

If I were in the country I'd definitely be doing this again. I really enjoyed the Lactic Acid Test in 2011. It was my first and only run in the area. There should be a story and pictures somewhere on the old blog. For all of you doing it, you'll have a blast.
