Hi,
Is the Hathersage Gala race on Monday suitable for a scaredy cat novice like myself?
Hi,

Nice race, not too tricky at all. Starts very briefly on the road then heads up hill along tracks then wooded path, as you get to owler tor you're on moorland paths. Down hill is much the same terrain and a final steep finish on tarmac. Decent field last year 200 or so. Id definately recommend it.
Did you run Hathersage last night? Nice race, decent size field. One of my favourite peak district local races.
Yes, and got round in one piece! great fun!!!
Results are out quickly (and the website is great!):

Good fun that race, and wasabi, you're off to a good start now. Obviously many races are harder than that, but it was no walk in the park - good experience.
Thanks. Was chuffed not to be last :-) Def need to work on my descending, managed to keep up with the flow on the uphills but lost loads of time on the downs. Was astonished at the speed some of you chaps came flying past on what I thought was quite rough terrain.
Any quick tips for getting speedier downhill would be appreciated.
Would also would have been to good to have a post race conflab over a beer. Friendliest, beer-fondest club to join?
Well if its beer and bullsh*t your after then the Fat Boy of Hathersage is the club for you. A drinking club with a running problem, in fact some went straight to the pub and didn't bother with the race :-)
How does that work though - every "Fat Boy" I saw at the race was some thin, lithe looking thing!!
(I like the black outfits though - very fetching!)
Dark Peak Fell Runners might be another good choice.
Where are you based?
